Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the ninth Ruler of a dynasty that stretches back more than years. Its first Ruler governed a group of members of the Al Bu Falasah branch of the Bani Yas tribe that seceded from Abu Dhabi and migrated from the Liwa Oasis to Dubai, where they settled along the banks of the Creek.
