George Clarke (born 27 May ) is an English architect, television presenter, lecturer and writer, best known for his work on the Channel 4 programmes The Home Show, The Restoration Man, George Clarke's Old House New Home, and George Clarke's Amazing Spaces.[1][2]
Early life
[edit]Clarke was born in Sunderland and brought up on a council estate in Washington.[3] His mother, Anne, worked at Oxclose Comprehensive School, in Oxclose, where Clarke was a pupil. His father, a printer,[4] died at the age of 26 from a water-skiing accident; George was 7 at the time.[5] His mother later remarried.[6] By his own admission, Clarke was a popular but very shy child.[7]

George, a Denver native, graduated from the University of Colorado and served as an officer in the US Navy. He founded the Writer Corporation in , and as a residential community builder has built over 12, homes in 38 planned communities.
He built Colorado’s first Planned Unit Development (PUD) as well as America’s first PUD under written by both the FHA and VA. He also built Writer Square, a downtown Denver mixed use development. The Colorado Design Council named Writer Square the top architectural and functional urban development for the decade of the eighties.
