Dalena (Dalene) Matthee (née Scott) was born in Riversdale in the Southern Cape on 13 October to Danie Scott (a direct descendant of Sir Walter Scott) and his wife Hester. Her father was a builder and her mother a housewife. Dalene was the middle child in a family of five children. Dalene Matthee (13 October – 20 February ) was a South African author best known for her four Forest Novels, written in and around the Knysna Forest. Her books have been translated into fourteen languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew and Icelandic, and over a million copies have been sold worldwide.
Biography
She was born Dalena Scott in Riversdale in the then Cape Province in After matriculating from the local high school in , she studied music at a conservatory in Oudtshoorn as well as at the Holy Cross Covent in Graaff-Reinet.
